its time to quit smokingSmoking cessation programs have been studied and implemented by government agencies to help the population stop smoking. Both the Federal and States government have spent huge amount of dollars for health care due to the many health effects of smoking. Perusing the net we’ve found one article discussing one such program called Quit Lines below:

Research shows that the best way for people to quit smoking is through evidence-based smoking cessation technologies and programs. Such services include, among others, prescription drugs, insurance programs, nicotine over-the-counter products, and quit lines. Smokers who take part in cessation programs are more likely to successfully quit smoking—defined as abstinence for six months or more—than those who attempt quitting on their own.

A Promising Approach: Quit Lines

One type of cessation program that has been found to be effective is the telephone quit line. For many years, state and local telephone quit lines have helped people who have called for assistance in their efforts to quit smoking. In particular, national quit line networks have been found to be effective; they have shown a higher rate of smoking abstinence by as much as 30 to 50 percent more than the rate achieved under control conditions.

Smoking is really awful and comes with several harmful side effects. We have listed the top 3 from our source from the net below.

HARMS OUR HEALTH. The foremost reason why smoking is injurious is- it copiously  harms our health. It is often said “If health is lost everything is lost” . The smoker should be made well versed with the fact that smoking adversely affects his/her health. If we particularly talk about cigarette, it contains nicotine and carbon monoxide which is considered to be the most dangerous chemicals which contribute in destroying the whole body of the person.

Nicotine and carbon monoxide tend to increase the blood pressure and heart rate of the person which in turn causes heart attacks. Smoking also causes the narrowing of the blood vessels  of the person which are responsible for blood flow in the body, which leads to cancer.

Smoking even slows down the blood flow, thereby cutting the oxygen to reach each and every part of the body. 50% of the smokers die due to lung cancer. Smokers often suffer with a disease named bronchitis. There are innumerable ill effects. Rather than continuing smoking why don’t people quit?? They think they are getting rid of their stress, but they are wrong…!!!

REDUCES OUR LIFE SPAN. Every time you light up your cigarette remember “you are reducing your life each time by 11 minutes”.  So “BEWARE” before lighting it up. Altogether if we just study the life span of a smoke addicted person, he reduces his life span by 10 years. Just think…!!! What about his family members, his small little kids, his parents and his near and dear ones. Is he not aware ?? or whether he is doing it deliberately?? Is there anyone who could help him quitting such hazardous materials??

CHEMICALS FROM MOTHERS CA.N BE PASSED ON TO SMALL BABIES. Mothers of infants who smoke regularly is also very harmful for the little babies who have not yet even seen this outside world. Moreover, if a women is  pregnant then she should avoid taking such things.Even the second hand effects small babies.
